SMALL CHOICES. LASTING ADVANTAGES.

The Splendor board game, one clever move at a time.

Splendor is a gem-trading strategy board game designed by Marc André. Collect tokens, invest in development cards and build permanent discounts. As your collection grows, expensive cards become easier to buy and nobles may reward your influence. Simple turns leave room for careful timing, resource planning and watching your rivals.

Gem Merchant is an independent, unofficial fan adaptation with its own interface and gem artwork. It brings the classic experience to your browser alongside a separate two-player Duel mode. Invite friends for a live game or practice with computer opponents, with no download or account required.

THE RULES OF THE TABLE

How to play Splendor online

In Classic, take one main action on your turn. Reach 15 prestige to trigger the final round; finish that round before determining the winner.

01

Collect gems

Take three different colors, or two of one color when at least four tokens remain in that stack. Gold is a wild token obtained through reserving.

02

Build your engine

Buy development cards with tokens and permanent discounts from earlier cards. Some cards also earn prestige. Your discounts are never spent.

03

Reserve & plan

Reserve a market card or draw privately from a deck. Take one gold if available and keep up to three reserved cards. Return excess tokens above ten.

04

Welcome nobles

Meet a noble’s development-card requirements to gain three prestige. Most prestige wins after the final round; fewer purchased cards breaks a tie.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you take a seat.

Can I play the Splendor board game online for free?

Yes. Gem Merchant is free to play in your browser. Create a private room with friends or start a practice game against computer opponents. No account or download is needed.

How do I play with friends?

Choose Classic or Duel, create a friends room, and share the invitation link or six-character room code. The host starts once at least two players have joined. You can fill empty seats with bots.

Can I play solo against the computer?

Yes. Practice mode starts a game with computer opponents. Classic supports one to three bots; Duel has one opponent. The bots use fixed strategy heuristics and do not have difficulty levels.

What is the difference between Classic and Duel?

Classic supports two to four players and focuses on card discounts and nobles. Duel is a separate two-player game with a shared gem board, pearls, privileges, royals and three ways to win.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The game adapts to desktop and mobile browsers. You can join the same room from different devices; keep using the browser where you joined to preserve your seat.

Will my game be saved?

Room progress is saved on the server and your seat key stays in your browser. Use Resume game on the same browser to return. Clearing browser storage loses your seat key. Inactive rooms expire after seven days.

Is Gem Merchant the official Splendor website?

No. Gem Merchant is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Space Cowboys or Asmodee. Splendor and Splendor Duel names belong to their respective rights holders.
